Christians ... I don't get it (part 2)

The blogsphere is currently over-run with opinions about Terri Schiavo, a woman who has been brain-dead for 15 years, and whether she should have her feeding tube removed [BBC News story].

I don't want to comment about this case in particular, what I am interested in is the strange hypocrisy of the "pro-life" Christians. These are the same sort of people who supported the war in Iraq, who agree with the death penalty and, in the more extreme cases, murder doctors who carry out abortions. Even over here in the UK the fundamentalist group Christian Voice complains that we have "abolished the death penalty but legalised the murder of children in the womb".

Am I missing something here? I thought the commandment was simply "thou shalt not kill", not "thou shalt not kill unless of course someone really pisses you off".

I also don't quite understand why, in America in particular, there is a connection with rather extreme right-wing politics and Christianity. I mean, wasn't Jesus pretty-much a socialist?
